Sports Injuries

Whether you are training for an event, playing social sports, or staying active in the gym, dealing with an injury can be frustrating. At Physio HQ, our senior physiotherapists focus on getting to the root cause of your pain so you can get back to doing what you love with confidence.

We look beyond immediate symptom relief to examine your biomechanics, training load, and movement patterns, ensuring we fix the underlying issues that caused the injury in the first place.

Advanced Technology & Recovery

To take the guesswork out of your rehabilitation, our Mairangi Bay clinic utilises VALD Performance testing. This allows us to measure your strength symmetry and movement force in real time, giving us exact numbers to guide your progress and safely plan your return to activity.

Complete Medical Support

If your injury requires further diagnostic investigation or medical input, such as X-rays, ultrasound scans, or specialist care, we can arrange direct referrals to trusted orthopaedic and sports medicine specialists across Auckland.

Sports Injuries

While we treat a wide variety of sport and movement injuries at Physio HQ, some of the most common injuries and conditions we manage include:

  • Tendons & Overuse: Patellar tendinopathy (jumper's knee), tennis elbow, golfer's elbow, Achilles tendinopathy, rotator cuff irritation, and shin splints.

  • Joint Trauma & Dislocations: Shoulder dislocations, joint sprains, and ligament tears (ACL, MCL, LCL).

  • Spine & Core Strain: Acute lower back sprains, mid-back strain, and neck stiffness from lifting, contact, or sudden movement.

  • Muscle & Soft Tissue: Acute muscle tears and strains in the hamstrings, calves, groin, or quadriceps, as well as deep contusions (corked muscles).

  • Surgical & Complex Recovery: Pre-operative preparation and post-operative surgical rehabilitation following sports injuries (such as ACL reconstruction or meniscus repairs).

  • Biomechanical & Load Issues: Movement compensations, runner’s knee, and technique-related overload.

  1. Comprehensive Sport Assessment: We evaluate your movement, joint stability, muscle strength, and training routine to understand the exact mechanics behind your injury.

  2. Hands-On & Active Rehabilitation: We combine clinical hands-on treatment to reduce immediate pain and swelling with a progressive exercise programme built around your specific sport or activity goals.

  3. Objective Progress Tracking: Using advanced tools like VALD Performance testing where appropriate, we measure your strength symmetry and force production to ensure your body is truly ready for higher training loads.

  4. Gradual Return to Activity: We provide clear guidance on modifying your workout routine or training load so you can stay active safely while minimising the risk of re-injury.
