ACC Physiotherapy

If you have suffered an injury from an accident, sport, or work incident, ACC (Accident Compensation Corporation) provides financial support towards your rehabilitation.

As an ACC-accredited provider, Physio HQ delivers registered physiotherapy care designed to guide your recovery from acute injury back to full activity. You do not need to see a GP before visiting us. Our team can register and lodge your new ACC claim directly during your first appointment. If you already have an existing claim number from a medical centre, emergency room, or specialist, simply bring it with you and we can link your treatment seamlessly.

Understanding ACC Co-payments:

ACC subsidises a portion of your treatment cost, but it does not cover the entire fee for our physio clinic. A surcharge applies to each ACC appointment to cover the full duration and depth of your care. You can view our current surcharge rates in the pricing table on ‘Our Services’ page.

Additional ACC Support Services:

Depending on the nature and severity of your injury, ACC may also provide extra support services to assist your recovery. Please note that eligibility is determined solely by ACC, and these services must be arranged directly through your ACC case manager by contacting ACC directly:

• Vocational Rehabilitation: Tailored programmes to support your return to work.

• Transport Assistance: Transport support (such as taxi travel) if your injury prevents you from driving to appointments.

• Home Help & Equipment: Daily living support or specialized equipment needed during early recovery.

Who Is Eligible for ACC?

• NZ Residents & Visitors: ACC covers everyone in New Zealand, including international visitors, tourists, and temporary workers. If an accident happens while you are physically on New Zealand soil, you are covered regardless of your citizenship or residency status.

• New Zealanders Injured Overseas: If you are a NZ resident injured while traveling or living abroad temporarily, ACC may cover your rehabilitation upon your return home, provided you meet ACC's criteria (such as maintaining tax residency in NZ). Most of the time if depends on how long you’ve been overseas for.

What injuries do ACC cover?

ACC generally covers sudden, physical injuries caused by a specific accident or event, such as:

• Joint sprains, ligament tears, and muscle strains from sports or daily activity

• Trips, slips, falls, and workplace accidents

• Post-operative rehabilitation following an accident-related surgery

What injuries do ACC NOT cover?

ACC generally does not cover conditions that develop gradually over time, chronic wear-and-tear, or non-accident medical conditions. If you are unsure whether your injury qualifies, your physio will review your situation during your initial consultation.

Your First Visit

1. Claim Setup & Consent: Whether you are new to Physio HQ or a returning patient, ACC requires a completed consent form for every new or separate injury. Even if you have treated with us previously for a different issue, or if your GP/hospital already lodged a claim for you, you will need to fill out our form. If you already have an existing ACC claim number, simply note it on the form so we can link your treatment directly. Please arrive a few minutes before your scheduled appointment time to complete this step.

2. Comprehensive Assessment: Your physiotherapist will conduct a thorough physical assessment to evaluate your injury, review your movement and function, and discuss exactly how the incident occurred.

3. Personalised Treatment Plan: We will outline a clear recovery roadmap, provide hands-on treatment where appropriate, and prescribe targeted home rehabilitation exercises to start your recovery straight away.

4. Follow-Up Care & Next Steps: We will guide your ongoing treatment plan and manage any required follow-up appointments. If your recovery calls for specialist referrals or diagnostic imaging (such as X-rays or ultrasound scans), we will coordinate this directly with ACC and appropriate providers.
